Numerous components play an important role in road safety including following the speed limits that are posted and ensuring safety equipment is appropriately installed and used.
Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA)
Keeping in mind the importance of traffic rules and for making people to follow the safety rules, the Pakistan government took an initiative as Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has introduced a drive against those defaulting on fines imposed through e-challan for violation of traffic rules in Lahore. During the drive, the defaulting drivers would be recognized and traced through the CCTV cameras of the Safe City. The defaulters would be stopped up and blocked and their vehicles would be seized till payment of the challans.
The activities and actions against the defaulters would be taken on the significant and important lanes and roads of the city with the help of traffic police. The electronic structure records any traffic-related offense and produces a challan with all the important details including the pictures of the violation – spot and number plate – taken through the CCTV cameras introduced throughout the city. The challan is then sent to the lawbreaker through a courier service. For maximum ease of the drivers, these challans will include a suitable due date for payment of fines.
The system has been established by the joint efforts of the Punjab Police and Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA). The database will store all the past records linked to the lawbreaker. If a person is found disobeying the traffic rules, again and again, the Punjab Police will be sanctioned to lock down their vehicle until the payment of due challans.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authorities (PSCA) has also taken an initiative for the Islamabad Registered Vehicles. They requested the Islamabad Excise Department for all the relevant data of the vehicles the needed to implement this E-Challan structure throughout the city. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has got Islamabad Excise department information and Islamabad Registered Vehicles will be getting their E-Challan tickets in their homes now. The violators of traffic rules will be fined under motor vehicle ordinance and rules. The resident can submit their Challans in any branch of Bank of Punjab and Nation Bank of Pakistan. The Punjab Safe Cities authority has composed letters to other provincial governments for their individual excise record so that E-Challan of their vehicles may be sent to registered addresses.
